The 2007
season saw returning WCPMA series champions Joe Delehay and his PM
Motorsports team debut their brand new Tim McAmis built BAE Blown
1968 Camaro.
"We ran
the Viper during the 2006 season while we waited for our new car to
be finished" said Delehay, "We won the championship with the Viper
in 2006 and hoped that we could back it up with another series
championship win for the 2007 season".
The 2007
championship didn't come easy this year as Delehay battled all year
with fellow WCPMA Veterans Trevor Lowe and Dan Vogt. In what was a
very close points battle, Delehay took the points lead at the second
to last race on the WCPMA schedule in the teams home town of
Calgary, Alberta. "Getting into the number one spot before the last
race in Billings really got our team pumped" Delehay said.
At the
last race of the year in Billings, Delehay and the PM
Motorsports team thought their Championship hopes were gone after
qualifying number one, clutch specialist Eddie Chabot found a crack
in the flywheel. "If the flywheel broke mid run it could of been
disastrous" said Delehay. With no spare flywheel the team was ready
to pack up and head home untill Bryon Mackey pulled his car out of
competition and gave Delehay his Clutch and flywheel in order to
help Delehay save his Championship hopes.
After
defeating Vern Mills in the semi-finals, Delehay had clinched the
2007 WCPMA Championship.
"To win
back to back championships was amazing!" Delehay said "I can't thank
my team enough for the hard effort every one put in this year"
For the
2008 season Delehay and team are planning on running select WCPMA
events as well as select IHRA events.
