Delehay Finishes With Semi-Final Loss

Joe Delehay and his PM Motorsports team proved they could run with
the big boys July 4-6 at the Rocky Mountain Nationals. In front of a
packed crowed full of some of the IHRA`s biggest fans Delehay and
team took their number 14 qualified 1968 Camaro all the way to the
semi finals where they lost to Thomas Patterson.
In qualifying Delehay was in the number 6 position heading into the
final round until good conditions allowed multiple 6.20 passes
putting Delehay in the number 14 spot. ``We are still learning with
our new set up`` Delehay said, ``If it wasn't for the tire shake at
the top of first gear the car would of ran a low 6.20 or even a teen
with the great track conditions``.

In the first round of eliminations Delehay was paired against the
number 4 qualifying Ed Hoover. Both cars had troubles with tire
shake but Delehay was the first to recover and got the win with a
7.90.

In the second round of eliminations Delehay faced Mike Castellana.
Both cars left the starting line well as Castellana experienced some
tire shake which was enough for Delehay`6.43 at 223 mph to drive
around Castellana`s 6.522 at 228 mph to get the win by approximately
22 inches. ``When I got out of my car I had no idea who had won
until the camera and interviewer came up to me`` Delehay said.

Being the last local left in competition Delehay, who had never won
a professional drag racing round in his career was about to race
Thomas Patterson in the Semi Finals at the Rocky Mountain Nationals.
Delehay who almost cut a perfect light (.026) had almost a tenth on
Patterson off the line but it wasn't enough as Patterson defeated
Delehay's 6.57 at 224 mph with his 6.37 at 227 mph.

``To go all the way to the semi finals is such a great feeling``
Said Joe, ``It shows that our team has what it takes to compete on a
professional level``.
Delehay's plans for the rest of the season are still not finalized,
but they will be attending the Night fire Nationals in Boise, Idaho
for the WCPMA event.
